Education and Training Counseling

Linda Larson Schlitz has a Master's Degree in Counseling and is a Certified Independent Social Worker and Professional Counselor with 20 years experience working with a broad range of people with mental illness, chemical dependency, personality disorders and other types of disabilities.

Linda will supervise the assessment of students in the Reintegration Assistance Program by working with the Master's Level Counseling Interns Kris Carlson and Shannon Daniels who are both doing internships at Randlin Homes.

Shannon will be assisting House Manager Krissy Schultz with new intakes and the development and review of the individualized treatment training, employment and transition plans and quarterly reviews.

Kris Carlson will be serving as an onsite job coach and vocational evaluator to help to remediate students who may need help in becoming employable. The 4th quarter will mark the time of job readiness and students will work more intensively with the Job Center.

Linda’s ability to take someone who wants to turn their life around, from an almost hopeless situation, and turn it into an opportunity for self growth is rare talent.

A number of years ago, she was faced with helping someone whose only job in the past was selling illegal drugs. He was in the Marathon County Jail serving his time, and had decided he needed to make a life change.

Linda used her creative skills to produce a resume, with a cover letter explaining his past mistakes.

The resume included 'transferable skills' that may be attractive to an employer.

*Customer Sales and Service.

*Financial Management.

*Reliability and Dependability.

Even though these skills were attained doing something wrong, they at least gave this person a starting point to begin to turn his life around.

Within a week, he actually found an employer willing to give him a second chance at life.

The company that gave him a chance was very satisfied with his performance, and when he moved to another town, he continued that positive change for these last nine years. He eventually moved into a lead position in a manufacturing company.

He is now seeking to go back to school to continue his education. Without the assistance from Linda, the likelihood of him becoming a productive member of society, would have been slim at best.

The final results…one less drug dealer on the streets, one life saved from a cycle of incarcerations, many lives spared from the drugs he was dealing, and one more solid citizen making contributions to society, rather than being a drain on taxpayers.

I can’t imagine a better example of how Linda works her magic to take a bad situation, and turn it into something that benefits everybody.
